In addition to being an avid performer, Nathaniel is a dedicated teacher. He is a member of the Piano Teachers Congress of New York, and sits on the Executive Board of that organization. He maintains a private studio and is on the piano and chamber music faculty at Third Street Music School Settlement. He has ten years of teaching experience, working with students of all ages and levels. Nathaniel has previously taught at St. Brendan's Community Music School, the Larchmont Music Academy, and the Juilliard School as a teaching fellow in the theory department. He has taught master classes at Third Street and at Gettysburg College.

A student of Robert Durso, he has an intimate knowledge of the Taubman Technique, which he uses to resolve students' technical problems and to build a healthy technique. He has helped several students recover from performance-related injuries, and he is comfortable reworking a student's technique from the ground up. A member of the Royal Conservatory of Music's College of Examiners, he has a deep knowledge of the RCM Practical Assessments, and has coached many students in program preparation for exams. As such, he includes sight-reading, ear-training, and keyboard skills as integral parts of every lesson.

Nathaniel's students have performed at Carnegie Hall, Steinway Hall, the Greene Space, and on live broadcast on WQXR. He has had students presented in many honors recitals, including Third Street's Piano Certificate Honors Concert, the PTC's Encore recital, and Third Street's Ears Open Festival for contemporary music. He has also sent students to master classes given by Edmund Arkus, Irina Sharapova, Angela Hewitt, and others.
